I-405
HOV Lanes from US-101 to I-10
This project, which is being completed in multiple
phases, will add carpool lanes to the San Diego Freeway (I-405),
closing gaps in the existing HOV lanes between the
Ventura Freeway (US-101) and the Santa Monica Freeway (I-10).
101/405
Interchange Improvements
Several projects are being developed to improve traffic
flow at the congested interchange between the Ventura and
San Diego Freeways. The projects include an auxiliary
lane on the northbound I-405 between Mulholland Drive and
the 101, an additional lane on the north-east connector,
and new connectors between the 101 and the southbound I-405.
Santa
Monica Transit Parkway
The Santa Monica Boulevard corridor, which was once
designated to be a freeway, will be upgraded. Big and
Little Santa Monica Blvd. will be combined into one six-lane
roadway, with smaller frontage roads on either side of
the main road to allow access to local businesses. The
corridor will be improved between I-405 and the Beverly
Hills city limit.
Interstate 5 Major
Improvement
This project will provide some much-needed improvements
to the underbuilt Santa Ana Freeway (I-5). The freeway
will be widened to eight mixed-flow lanes and two HOV
lanes between Beach Boulevard and Interstate 710. The I-5/I-710
interchange will also be rebuilt and improved.
Long Beach Freeway (710)
Gap Closure
The extension of the Long Beach Freeway (I-710) to the
Foothill Freeway (I-210) is crucial for mobility in this
region. The completed Long Beach Freeway would
significantly reduce traffic congestion relief in
Alhambra, South Pasadena, and East Los Angeles, by
providing a bypass route around downtown Los Angeles. The
impacts of this project on South Pasadena will be
minimal, as the freeway will be built on a depressed
profile, with cut-and-cover tunnels in more sensitive
areas.
San Bernardino Freeway (10)
HOV Widening
This project will extend HOV (carpool) lanes on the San
Bernardino Freeway (I-10) from Baldwin Avenue to the Los
Angeles/San Bernardino county line.
CA-71 Expressway to Freeway
Conversion
Once this segment of the Corona Expressway is upgraded to
freeway, a major traffic bottleneck will be removed.
Pearblossom Highway
Improvement
This project to widen Pearblossom Highway will improve
cross-desert traffic flow and provide needed arterial
road capacity for the growing High Desert communities.
